Mumbai.Adani Enterprises Limited has reported a dramatic rise in profit for the third quarter of the financial year ending 2026, driven by the sale of its remaining stake in Adani Wilmar. The company posted a net profit of ₹5,627 crore in the December quarter, compared with just ₹58 crore in the same period last year, a nearly 97-fold increase on an annual basis. After these results were released, the company’s share price climbed more than 10 per cent, closing at ₹2,207.
Wilmar sale lifts quarterly earnings sharply
The main reason behind the unusually high quarterly profit was the final tranche of the sale of Adani Wilmar, the edible oil business known for the Fortune brand. Adani Enterprises completed this sale in three stages, with the final one occurring in the December quarter. From this last sale alone, the company made ₹5,632.09 crore in gains.
Three stages complete exit from Wilmar ownership
Adani Group’s exit from Adani Wilmar unfolded in three distinct phases:
- First phase until March 2025: 13.51 per cent stake sold through an offer for sale generating ₹3,945.73 crore
- Second phase in the September 2025 quarter: 10.42 per cent stake sold for ₹2,968.72 crore, reducing the group’s holding to 20 per cent
- Third phase in the December 2025 quarter: 13 per cent stake sold to Leni Pte Limited and the remaining 7 per cent in the open market, raising ₹5,632.09 crore
As a result, the Adani Group no longer has any ownership interest or stake in Adani Wilmar.
Share performance mixed despite strong results day
After the results, Adani Enterprises shares saw a strong uptick, but recent performance has been varied:
- Share price up more than 10 per cent to ₹2,207 on the day of results
- Down around 3 per cent over the past month
- Down around 4 per cent over the past six months
- Roughly unchanged over the past year
The company’s market capitalisation stands at approximately ₹2.75 lakh crore.
Explaining consolidated profit reporting
Corporate results are reported in two formats — standalone and consolidated. Standalone shows the financial performance of a single entity, while consolidated includes the combined financial results of the parent and its subsidiaries. The ₹5,627 crore profit refers to the consolidated financial performance for the quarter.
