Adani Enterprises Swings to Rs 1,160 Crore Loss After US Settlement Payment Despite Strong Revenue Growth

Winning Bizness Desk

Mumbai.Adani Enterprises reported a consolidated net loss of Rs 1,160 crore for the April-June quarter of FY2026-27 after making a one-time settlement payment of Rs 2,644 crore to a US government agency. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 885 crore in the same quarter last year.

Despite the sharp hit to its bottom line, the flagship Adani Group company delivered a strong operational performance, with quarterly revenue rising 50% year-on-year. The financial results were announced on July 29.

Revenue Growth Offsets Operational Pressure

The company's revenue climbed to reflect a 50% annual increase, highlighting continued momentum across its businesses despite the exceptional charge. In the corresponding quarter last year, Adani Enterprises had reported revenue of Rs 21,961 crore.

Company management indicated that its core businesses continued to perform well, suggesting that the loss was not driven by weakness in day-to-day operations but by an extraordinary financial adjustment linked to the settlement.

Key Reasons Behind Quarterly Loss

The biggest factor behind the quarterly loss was the one-time payment made to the US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). The settlement amount significantly impacted the company's earnings for the quarter.

Key highlights include:

  • Net loss stood at Rs 1,160 crore against a profit of Rs 885 crore a year earlier.
  • A one-time settlement payment of Rs 2,644 crore was made to OFAC.
  • Quarterly revenue registered a robust 50% year-on-year increase.
  • Core business operations continued to record growth despite the exceptional expense.

The company said that after adjusting for the one-time settlement cost, operational performance remained healthy, indicating that the loss was largely accounting-driven rather than reflective of business fundamentals.

What OFAC Does

The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) is a financial intelligence and enforcement agency operating under the US Department of the Treasury. It administers and enforces economic and trade sanctions in line with US national security and foreign policy objectives.

Its regulatory actions often involve monitoring financial transactions, implementing sanctions programmes and ensuring compliance with US laws governing international trade and financial dealings.
