Mumbai.Amazon has announced a fresh investment of $13 billion, or nearly ₹1.23 lakh crore, in India to strengthen its artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud infrastructure, reinforcing its long-term commitment to one of its fastest-growing markets. The announcement came after Amazon CEO Andy Jassy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his India visit. The investment is expected to support nearly 3.8 million jobs across the country while accelerating India's digital transformation and AI adoption. The latest commitment further cements Amazon's position among the largest global investors in India's technology ecosystem.
Expanding long-term investment plans
The new announcement comes within months of Amazon unveiling another major investment roadmap for India. In December 2025, the company had announced a $35 billion (around ₹3.30 lakh crore) investment to be deployed between 2026 and 2030. Combined with its earlier commitments, Amazon's total investment in India between 2010 and 2030 will exceed $88 billion, or nearly ₹8.31 lakh crore. The company had also indicated plans to invest around ₹4.53 lakh crore within six months as part of its broader expansion strategy.
Key highlights of Amazon's latest commitment:
- Fresh investment of $13 billion (around ₹1.23 lakh crore).
- Funds to strengthen AI and cloud infrastructure.
- Around 3.8 million jobs expected to be supported.
- Total investment in India to cross ₹8.31 lakh crore by 2030.
- Amazon strengthens its position among India's biggest foreign investors.
The latest investment also makes Amazon one of the world's biggest investors in India's AI and cloud infrastructure segment. Besides its technology push, the company continues to remain one of the country's largest foreign investors and among the biggest contributors to India's e-commerce export ecosystem.
India's priorities shape Amazon's growth
Speaking after the announcement, Andy Jassy said Amazon entered India more than a decade ago and has since built businesses serving customers, sellers, developers, startups and large enterprises. He noted that India has emerged as one of Amazon's strongest growth markets in e-commerce, AI and cloud computing.
Jassy said Amazon's business priorities are closely aligned with India's national priorities. According to him, the company is focused on making AI accessible to everyone, helping small businesses digitise their operations, generating employment opportunities and supporting export-led growth. He added that these initiatives are inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of building a developed and self-reliant India.
Amazon's targets for India by 2030 include:
- Supporting more than 3.8 million jobs.
- Enabling e-commerce exports worth $80 billion (around ₹7.55 lakh crore).
- Bringing AI benefits to 15 million small businesses.
- Connecting 4 million government school students with AI and modern technology.
Mumbai and Hyderabad to lead AI expansion
A significant share of Amazon's planned investment has been earmarked for expanding AI and cloud capabilities through Amazon Web Services (AWS). Out of the company's total planned technology investment of $48 billion, nearly $21 billion (around ₹1.75 lakh crore) has been allocated specifically for AI and cloud infrastructure.
The funds will be used to upgrade AWS regions in Mumbai and Hyderabad, strengthening cloud computing capacity and advanced AI services for Indian customers. Amazon said these facilities allow organisations to securely store data within India while accessing some of the world's most advanced AI technologies.
The upgraded infrastructure will include high-performance Trainium chips and Amazon Bedrock, AWS's flagship inference engine, enabling businesses, startups and developers to build and deploy next-generation AI applications more efficiently. The investment is expected to further position India as a key global hub for Amazon's AI and cloud ambitions while supporting the country's rapidly expanding digital economy.
