Mumbai. Amazon has opened its second largest office in Asia in Bengaluru, strengthening its long-term bet on India. The 12-storey campus, spread across 1.1 million square feet, has come up at Kattigenahalli on the city’s outskirts. The new facility will house more than 7,000 employees across key verticals, underlining the company’s continued expansion in one of its fastest-growing markets.

Campus spread over five acres

Built on nearly five acres of land, the campus is equipped with modern infrastructure and designed to bring multiple teams under one roof. Employees from e-commerce, operations, payments, technology and seller services will work out of this facility.

Key highlights of the campus include:

  • Total built-up area of 1.1 million square feet
  • 12 floors with advanced workplace facilities
  • Capacity to accommodate over 7,000 employees
  • Integrated teams across major business functions

The company said the campus reflects its focus on long-term growth and talent development in India.

India investment crosses 40 billion dollars

David Zapolsky, Amazon’s Senior Vice President for Global Affairs and Legal, said India stands out globally for the speed at which it is adopting technology and embracing Artificial Intelligence. According to him, the level of energy and innovation seen in India is unmatched.

Amazon has already invested 40 billion dollars, roughly Rs 3.60 lakh crore, across its businesses in India. The company has also committed to invest an additional 35 billion dollars, around Rs 3.20 lakh crore, by 2030. This fresh investment will be directed towards expanding infrastructure, strengthening logistics and deepening its technology footprint in the country.

Amazon now model to expand globally

Zapolsky also highlighted the success of Amazon Now, the company’s quick commerce model designed for fast-paced Indian cities. The format focuses on rapid deliveries through smaller, strategically located outlets.

The company now plans to replicate this India-tested model in other regions, including:

  • Middle East
  • North America
  • Europe
  • Latin America

This move signals India’s growing influence in shaping Amazon’s global strategies.

State government hails expansion

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Karnataka’s Minister for Large and Medium Industries, M B Patil. He said Amazon’s continued investment in Bengaluru shows that India is steadily emerging as a global technology and innovation hub.

Patil noted that large campuses like this not only generate employment but also strengthen the local ecosystem. He added that such projects contribute significantly to the digital economy and encourage ancillary industries, startups and service providers around them.

Hyderabad houses Amazon’s largest campus

While Bengaluru now hosts Amazon’s second largest office in Asia, the company’s biggest campus in both Asia and the world is located in Hyderabad. Opened in 2019, the Hyderabad campus is spread across 9.5 acres and can accommodate around 15,000 employees.

With the new Bengaluru facility operational, Amazon has further deepened its roots in India. The expansion reflects confidence in the country’s talent pool, digital growth story and rising consumer market. As global technology companies recalibrate their strategies, India continues to occupy a central place in their long-term plans.
