Mumbai. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday pitched for mandatory authenticity labels on AI-generated digital content to curb deepfakes, while Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani announced a massive Rs 10 lakh crore investment to make Artificial Intelligence affordable in India. The announcements were made on the fourth day of the India AI Impact Summit 2026 underway in New Delhi, drawing participation from global technology leaders and policymakers.
Safe and human-centric AI vision
Addressing the gathering, Narendra Modi said digital content should carry a clear authenticity label, similar to nutrition labels on food packets, so users can distinguish between real and fabricated material. He underlined that India views AI not with fear but as destiny and a turning point in its development journey.
He proposed a global framework titled M.A.N.A.V, stressing that AI must be Moral, Accountable, respect National Sovereignty, remain Accessible and be Valid. The Prime Minister also called for open-source AI models, arguing that shared code would allow young innovators worldwide to improve safety and transparency.
Key points from his address included:
- AI should empower humanity, not reduce it to data points
- Open sharing of technology can enhance global trust
- Skilling and reskilling must become a mass movement
- Humans and machines will create together in future
Global participation at New Delhi summit
The summit, which began on February 16 and will conclude on February 20, has seen participation from over 110 countries, leaders from more than 20 nations and nearly 100 CEOs and founders. Among those addressing the plenary were Narendra Modi, Mukesh Ambani, Google CEO Sundar Pichai and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
In a notable detail, the Prime Minister’s nameplate at the venue read Bharat, echoing the usage seen during the G20 Summit in New Delhi in 2024, when official communication had similarly used the name Bharat instead of India.
Ambani announces massive AI investment
Mukesh Ambani said AI would become as affordable as mobile data, recalling how Jio transformed digital access in the country. He announced that Reliance Industries and Jio would invest Rs 10 lakh crore over the next seven years to build AI infrastructure and services.
He described AI as a force that enhances every machine and process, comparing it to a modern Akshaya Patra capable of delivering endless value. Addressing concerns about job losses, he maintained that AI would create high-skill employment rather than eliminate opportunities.
Tata and Google outline infrastructure push
N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, announced that the Tata Group is building India’s first large-scale AI-optimised data centre for training and inference. The facility will begin with 100 megawatts capacity in partnership with OpenAI and later scale up to one gigawatt.
Sundar Pichai said Google is setting up a full-stack AI hub in India as part of its 15 billion dollar infrastructure investment. The hub will include gigawatt-scale computing capacity and a new international subsea cable gateway. He said bold steps are needed to ensure AI improves billions of lives and reaches underserved regions.
Focus on jobs and future growth
Both government and industry leaders emphasised that AI will not replace workers but redefine roles. The Prime Minister reiterated that collaboration between humans and machines will shape the next era of innovation.
At the close of the session, officials highlighted:
- AI as a driver of inclusive growth
- Investment-led infrastructure expansion
- Global cooperation for safe technology
- India’s ambition to lead in the intelligence age
With strong policy signals and unprecedented corporate commitments, the summit positioned India at the centre of the evolving global AI landscape.
