Mumbai. In a significant financial milestone, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has posted a net profit of ₹280 crore for the fourth quarter of FY2024-25. This is only the second instance in the last 18 years that the state-run telecom company has achieved profitability in any quarter. The figure marks a strong reversal from the ₹849 crore loss incurred in the same quarter of the previous financial year.
Back-to-Back Profits for the First Time Since 2007
This is the second consecutive quarter that BSNL has reported profits, following a ₹262 crore profit in Q3 FY25 (October-December 2024). Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia highlighted this achievement, noting it as a testament to the company's ongoing revival. The results were announced on May 27, alongside the annual financial statements.
Annual Loss Cut by Over 50%
Despite challenges, BSNL managed to drastically reduce its net loss for the full financial year. The net loss for FY25 stood at ₹2,247 crore, a substantial improvement from the ₹5,370 crore loss in FY24. This reduction reflects enhanced operational efficiency and strategic reforms introduced by the government and BSNL’s leadership.
Operational Revenue Witnesses Healthy Growth
BSNL’s revenue from operations rose by 7.8% to ₹20,841 crore in FY25, up from ₹19,330 crore in the previous fiscal year. The growth is driven by increased uptake of telecom services and improved execution of infrastructure and digital connectivity initiatives.
Key business segments of BSNL saw robust growth. Mobility services revenue increased by 6% to ₹7,499 crore. The Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) segment showed a 10% increase in revenue, reaching ₹2,923 crore. Meanwhile, the enterprise services including leased lines and corporate solutions grew by 3.5% to ₹4,096 crore, indicating broader adoption of BSNL’s digital services.
4G Rollout and Asset Monetization Push Forward
Minister Scindia revealed that BSNL’s 4G rollout is actively progressing, with 93,450 towers already operational. Synchronization efforts are underway to ensure seamless service across regions. Additionally, BSNL's asset monetization saw a 77% rise in FY25, reaching ₹1,120 crore — further aiding financial stability.
Leadership Vision: Rebuilding and Redefining BSNL
BSNL Chairman and Managing Director A. Robert J. Ravi attributed the turnaround to professional management, consistent government backing, and focused execution. He emphasized that the company is not only being revived but redefined. With continued cost control and 4G/5G deployment, BSNL aims to provide affordable, high-quality connectivity across India, reinforcing its role in the country’s digital ecosystem.
