Mumbai. The Indian stock market has witnessed an extraordinary rally, surprising global investors. In just six trading sessions, both Sensex and Nifty surged over 5.5%, adding over ₹27 lakh crore to investors’ wealth. This remarkable performance has outpaced major global markets, including Wall Street, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. Experts suggest that the market is swiftly recovering from losses incurred in early 2025, driven by renewed foreign investments, a strong rupee, falling crude oil prices, and positive domestic economic indicators.

Key Factors Driving Market Rally
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) Return
After months of continuous selling, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) have turned net buyers. On March 21, FIIs purchased ₹7,470 crore worth of equities, signaling renewed confidence in Indian markets. This reversal in FII sentiment has played a crucial role in the stock market's sharp rise.
Stronger Domestic Economic Indicators
Despite global concerns over U.S. tariffs from April 2, Indian markets remain resilient. Improving macroeconomic data, lower inflation, and expectations of an interest rate cut in the upcoming monetary policy meeting have boosted investor sentiment.
Falling U.S. Treasury Yields
The 10-year U.S. Treasury yield has declined by nearly 40 basis points since mid-February, settling at 4.27%. Lower yields make emerging markets like India more attractive, leading to increased foreign inflows.
Appreciating Rupee
The Indian rupee has strengthened for seven consecutive sessions, breaking below 86 per U.S. dollar for the first time since January 10. A stronger rupee makes Indian assets more attractive to foreign investors, further driving stock market gains.
Investors Gain ₹27 Lakh Crore in 6 Days
The rally has significantly increased investor wealth. The BSE market capitalization, which stood at ₹3,91,18,432.93 crore on March 13, has now risen to ₹4,18,35,395.21 crore. This translates to a ₹27,16,962.28 crore gain for investors in just six trading sessions. On Monday alone, investors added ₹5,04,771.16 crore to their portfolios.
