Mumbai. In the financial year 2024-25 (FY25), India's automotive sector witnessed robust growth, with total vehicle sales surpassing 2.6 crore units. This marks a 6.46% increase compared to the previous fiscal year. The two-wheeler segment was the primary contributor, recording sales of 1.88 crore units, reflecting a 7.71% year-on-year growth. This surge indicates a strong recovery in consumer demand, especially in rural and semi-urban areas.
April 2025 Sales Show Modest Growth
In April 2025, the first month of the new fiscal year, vehicle sales in India exceeded 22 lakh units, registering a 2.95% growth over April 2024. The two-wheeler category sold over 16 lakh units, marking a 2.25% increase from the same month last year. These figures suggest a steady demand in the automotive market, despite economic uncertainties.
Hero MotoCorp Maintains Leadership in Two-Wheelers
Hero MotoCorp retained its position as the leading two-wheeler manufacturer in FY25, selling approximately 5.44 million units and capturing a 28.84% market share. Although this represents a slight decline from the previous year's 30.79% share, Hero's dominance in the segment remains significant. Maruti Suzuki Leads Passenger Vehicle Segment
In the passenger vehicle (PV) segment, Maruti Suzuki continued to lead with a 39.44% market share in April 2025, selling 1,38,021 units. Despite facing stiff competition from other manufacturers, Maruti's diverse portfolio and strong brand presence helped maintain its top position.
Commercial Vehicle Sales Experience Slight Decline
Contrary to the growth in other segments, the commercial vehicle (CV) sector saw a marginal decline in FY25. Sales dropped by 0.17%, with 10,08,623 units sold compared to 10,10,324 units in the previous fiscal year.
