Mumbai. The central government has approved the 8th Pay Commission, set to be implemented from January 2026. This decision comes after persistent demands from central employees and unions. Here's a detailed calculation of how much salaries are expected to increase under the new pay commission.
Fitment Factor and Salary Hike
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced this update on January 16. Employees and organizations have been advocating for the implementation of a fitment factor ranging from 2.56 to 2.86. If the 8th Pay Commission adopts the proposed fitment factor of 2.86, the minimum salary of central employees could rise from ₹18,000 to ₹51,480.
Level 1 Employee Salary Calculation
Under the current 7th Pay Commission, Level 1 employees receive a minimum salary of ₹18,000. With the 8th Pay Commission and a 2.86 fitment factor, their monthly salary would increase to ₹51,480.
Salary Calculation Formula
New Salary = Current Salary (as per 7th Pay Commission) × Fitment Factor
For example:
1. - Current salary = ₹18,000
2. - Fitment factor = 2.86
3. - New Salary = ₹18,000 × 2.86 = ₹51,480 per month
Impact on Salaries and Pensions
If the 8th Pay Commission is implemented with the proposed fitment factor of 2.86, employees across all pay levels will experience a significant salary hike. Additionally, pensions for retired employees will also increase proportionally, providing financial benefits to both current and former central government employees.
