Mumbai. India’s ultra-wealth segment is expanding at a rapid pace, reflecting deeper economic shifts and rising capital concentration. According to Knight Frank’s Wealth Report 2026, the number of ultra-rich individuals in India has surged from around 12,000 in 2021 to 19,877 in 2026, marking a sharp 63 percent increase. This growth places India firmly among the fastest-expanding wealth markets globally, even as its overall share in global ultra-wealth remains relatively modest.
Global surge in super-rich population continues
The report highlights a broader global trend, with nearly 89 individuals entering the super-rich category every 24 hours. These are individuals with assets exceeding 30 million dollars, roughly equivalent to Rs 282 crore. Over the past five years, the global ultra-wealth population has expanded significantly:
- Total count rose from 551,435 in 2021

India’s steady rise in global wealth rankings
India currently ranks third globally with 207 billionaires, underlining its growing economic influence. Projections suggest a further 51 percent increase in billionaire numbers, taking the total to 313 by 2031. At the same time, the country’s ultra-wealth population is expected to grow by another 27 percent, reaching 25,217 individuals. Despite this expansion, India’s share in global ultra-wealth stands at just 2.8 percent, indicating significant headroom for future growth.
Emerging markets to outpace developed economies
Growth is not limited to India. Several emerging economies are expected to witness faster expansion in ultra-wealth segments over the next five years:
- Indonesia likely to see 82 percent growth
- Saudi Arabia and Poland projected at 63 percent each
- Vietnam expected to grow by 59 percent
These trends indicate a shift in wealth creation hubs toward Asia and other developing regions.
United States retains dominant global position
The United States continues to hold a commanding share of global ultra-wealth. Its contribution has risen from 33 percent in 2021 to 35 percent in 2026, with projections indicating a further rise to 41 percent by 2031. Notably, 41 percent of all new ultra-rich individuals created in the past four years have emerged from the US alone, underscoring its sustained economic dominance.
