Mumbai.July Gross GST Revenue Collections Up 15.4 Per Cent
India’s gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections expanded a healthy 15.4 per cent to above Rs 2.11-lakh-crore last month (July).
This northward movement in collections was propelled by higher collections from both sales and imports, which, in turn, reflected a sustained domestic consumption.
Gross GST collections were Rs 1.83-lakh-crore in July 2025 and Rs 1.95-lakh-crore in July of this year.
Tax collections from domestic transactions climbed up 10 per cent to more than Rs 1.44-lakh-crore, while gross revenues from imports registered a robust 29 per cent increase to Rs 66,511-crore.
The point that requires highlighting here is that the July collection is a strong reflection of continued economic resilience despite challenges in the external environment, especially in the geo-political field.
The July GST collections increased in the premier manufacturing states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and Telangana.
The gross Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) revenue during the month stood at Rs 39,835-crore while State GST (SGST) and Integrated GST (IGST) collections stood respectively at Rs 47,881-crore and in excess of Rs 1.23-lakh-crore.
Total refunds moved northward 13.1 per cent to Rs 29,968-crore. After adjusting refunds, the net GST revenue was at Rs 1.81-lakh-crore.
The point to highlight here is that this growth clearly reveals a broad-based momentum across the country’s largest manufacturing services and consumption hubs.
Gross tax collection increased 10.1 per cent to about Rs 8.43-lakh-crore in the April-to-July period while net collections climbed 9.2 per cent to Rs 7.21-lakh-crore during the same period.
Haryana Clocks Strongest Growth in Domestic GST Collections
Among states with respect to domestic GST collections, the northern state of Haryana clocked the strongest growth.
The revenue the state collected increased by a robust 28 per cent. Haryana was followed by Gujarat in the second place and Karnataka in the third place. Gujarat’s collection moved northward by 26 per cent and Karnataka’s by 23 per cent.
Collections slid the biggest in states such as Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand in July. The states witnessed slides by 23 per cent and 20 per cent, respectively.
In Delhi, the collection declined by eight per cent.
Excise Duty Collections Slide 22 pc in Q1 FY 27
A sharp southward slide in excise duty collections following fuel tax cuts and a relatively subdued growth in overall GST receipts has resulted in the Centre’s gross tax revenue increasing only by a small 3.7 per cent on a Year-on-
Year (YoY) basis in the first-quarter (Q1) of this fiscal (FY 27).
Excise duty collections declined by a big 22 per cent to Rs 43,149-crore during the April-to-June period of this fiscal as compared to the Rs 55,605-crore in the corresponding period of the last year.
Customs duty collections, on the other hand, registered a steep climb of over 36 per cent on the back of higher duties on precious metals and higher commodity prices.
Here, it must be pointed out that in March, the government had trimmed excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 10 per litre to protect the people from the sharp rise in international crude oil prices due to the Middle-East war.
According to the latest Union Government Accounts released just a few days ago, the gross tax revenue stood at Rs 9.01-lakh-crore in the April-to-June period of this fiscal, up from the Rs 8.69-lakh-crore in the year-ago period.
Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) moved northward 17 per cent to Rs 2.71-lakh-crore during the quarter from the Rs 2.32-lakh-crore a year earlier.
However, the overall GST revenue growth remained subdued due to weaker Integrated GST (IGST) collections.
As Monsoon Rains Revive, Summer Crop Sowing Picks Up
Sowing of summer-sown crops such as cotton, soybean and rice pan-India have picked up on the back of a revival in monsoon rains. This has helped cut the earlier sowing deficit caused by deficit rainfall.
The point to note here is that farmers in the country normally sow summer crops in the months of June and July after the monsoon reaches Kerala in the south of the country.
This year the monsoon arrived late by three days and its advance across critical western farming regions was slow, resulting in a delay in planting.
Summer crop sowing was nearly a quarter lower than a year earlier at end-June; however, the deficit has since narrowed to below five per cent, according to data of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare.
Farmers had planted summer-sown crops on 78.7-million hectares as of July 24 as compared to 82.6-million hectares a year earlier, the Agriculture Ministry data showed.
Area under rice cultivation stood at 23.4-million hectares, down from last year’s 24-million hectares.
The monsoon rainfall deficit has narrowed to 16 per cent from the nearly 40 per cent at end-June, following widespread rains over the past few weeks.
However, some regions are still facing rainfall deficits of as much as 40 per cent.
With respect to soybeans, farmers have planted on 11.4-million hectares, a slide of three per cent as compared to the last year.
Corn was planted on 7.8-million hectares, down 9.7 per cent from the same period last year. The area under cotton has also slid four per cent to 9.87-million hectares while area under sugar-cane has moved up 1.5 per cent to 5.76-million hectares.
Tamil Nadu Inks Rs 425-crore Investment Deals

Global majors such Chubb, MotiveLink, the University of Western Australia (UWA) and Nordex have announced their expansion and new projects in the southern state.
A significant highlight here is the MotiveLink investment which is considered as significant as the multinational company was also wooed by the neighbouring state of Andhra Pradesh as well.
MotiveLink is a South Korean company.
These agreements were signed at an event hosted by Guidance Tamil Nadu, the state’s investment promotion agency in the presence of its Chief Minister Mr Joseph Vijay.
MotiveLink, along with DNM Autopower which is a joint venture with Dong Yang E&P, has announced a Rs 300-crore investment for an electric vehicle components manufacturing facility at SIPCOT, Pillaipakkam in Kanchipuram district.
This project is expected to generate 1,500 direct and indirect jobs.
It will manufacture coils, printed circuit boards, magnetic components, housings, transformers and filters for export to European and North American markets under a “Make in Tamil Nadu for the Global Market” strategy.
MotiveLink will also serve as the anchor investor for a wider cluster of South Korean Tier-1 suppliers.
The University of Western Australia will invest about Rs 125-crore to establish a 50,000 sq ft campus in Velachery in Chennai.
This will be its first campus in the country. It is scheduled to commence operations in October of this year and is expected to provide in excess of 200 jobs.
Nordex, a German wind turbine-manufacturer has also inked a facilitation MoU to establish an engineering and research and development centre in Chennai, expanding its existing global capability centre in the city.
This project is expected to create around 1,000 jobs in the first phase across engineering, R&D, supply-chain management and digital transformation.
Another global biggie, the Swiss insurer Chubb also plans to set-up its first global capability centre in Chennai. It will initially employ about 220 people in advanced analytics and engineering and has plans for further expansion in the future.
