Mumbai. Passengers traveling on the Mumbai-Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor can now avail themselves of smart locker facilities at railway stations. This service is currently operational at Sahibabad and Ghaziabad stations and is designed to meet the needs of travelers. These smart lockers can be used not only for storing luggage but also for receiving e-commerce parcels.
How the Locker Facility Works
To use the service, passengers must create an account by entering their details on the digital screen provided at the locker station. Based on the requirements, travelers can choose from small, medium, large, or extra-large lockers. Lockers can be booked for durations ranging from 1 to 6 hours. While booking, passengers must specify the size of the locker and the duration they need it for.
Payment for the service can be made conveniently via UPI. However, if a passenger’s belongings remain in the locker beyond the booked time, they will need to pay an additional hourly fee based on the size of the locker to retrieve their items.
Upcoming Features: App-Based Locker Booking
The locker booking facility will soon be integrated into the Namo Bharat Connect App. Travelers will be able to access the “Rent a Locker” option in the app, where they can select the station name, date, and the duration for which they wish to book a locker.
Charges for Using the Lockers
Small Locker: ₹20 per hour
Medium Locker: ₹30 per hour
Large/Extra-Large Locker: ₹40 per hour
Once the payment is made, the locker is booked, and the passenger receives an access code. This code is used to open and close the locker. For security purposes, the access code is one-time use only, ensuring that no one else can access the locker.
Receiving E-Commerce Parcels
Passengers can also use these lockers for receiving e-commerce parcels. To do this, they need to share their access code and phone number with the delivery person. Upon arriving at the station, the delivery person will undergo a security check and inform the customer care booth at the station about the parcel. The delivery person will then place the parcel in the designated locker and leave the station.
Convenience and Security
This smart locker facility provides a safe and hassle-free solution for passengers to store their belongings or receive deliveries. With digital access and payment options, it is designed to offer maximum convenience while ensuring security. The facility is expected to expand to more stations, enhancing the travel experience on the Namo Bharat Corridor.
