Winning Bizness Desk

Mumbai. In the July-September quarter of financial year 2025-26, the automobile company Maruti Suzuki India reported total income of approximately ₹43,290 crore, marking an 11 percent rise over the same quarter last year. This increase reflects higher sales value and stronger export performance. The previous year’s income for the same quarter was around ₹38,972 crore.

After accounting for operating expenses like salaries, raw-material costs and taxes, the company posted a consolidated net profit of about ₹3,349 crore for the quarter — an increase of 8 percent from roughly ₹3,102 crore in the same period of the prior year. This shows that despite rising input costs, the company managed to boost profitability.

Revenue from the sale of vehicles and related services reached around ₹42,344 crore in the quarter, up 13 percent year-on-year (from about ₹37,449 crore in the equivalent quarter last year). The growth suggests the business is gaining in scale and realisation per unit, although cost control remains key.

During this quarter, the company sold 550,874 vehicles in total. Domestic sales (within India) fell by 5.1 percent to 440,387 units, while exports surged by 42.2 percent to 110,487 units. This strong export growth helped offset the decline at home and kept overall growth at about 1.7 percent.

Segment focus and share market performance

A notable point: the company sold about 1.92 lakh units in the sub-4-metre car segment in this quarter, showing strength in its compact car lineup. On the stock front, the company’s share price has risen strongly: about 32 percent return in the past six months, around 45 percent return since the start of the calendar year, and roughly 46 percent over the last 12 months. The market capitalisation stands at approximately ₹5.10 lakh crore.

Historical background of the company

Maruti Suzuki India began originally as Maruti Industries (government-owned) in 1981 and entered into a joint venture with Japan’s Suzuki Corporation in 1982. The company’s first major budget car, the Maruti 800, was launched in 1983 at an ex-showroom price of ₹47,500, making car ownership accessible to a broader segment of Indians. Over the past forty years, the company has sold around 3 crore vehicles in India.
