Winning Bizness Desk

Mumbai.Reliance Industries has joined forces with Facebook to form a new artificial intelligence (AI) company called Reliance Enterprise Intelligence Limited (REIL). Both companies announced an initial joint investment of Rs 855 crore in this venture. The announcement was made through a regulatory filing on Saturday, October 25. The collaboration brings together the expertise of Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries and Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta Platforms in a major push to develop AI-based enterprise solutions for the Indian and global markets.

Reliance to hold majority stake in REIL

According to the official filing, Reliance Intelligence Limited will hold a 70 percent stake in REIL, while Facebook Overseas Inc, a subsidiary of Meta Platforms Inc, will own the remaining 30 percent. Reliance Intelligence Limited has already invested Rs 2 crore as part of its initial equity, acquiring 20 million shares priced at Rs 10 each. The ownership structure gives Reliance operational control of the company, while Meta contributes its technological expertise, particularly in AI model development.

Focus on enterprise-grade AI solutions

The new joint venture will focus on developing, marketing, and selling AI-driven services designed for enterprises across multiple sectors. The goal is to build scalable and affordable AI platforms that businesses can use to enhance productivity, efficiency, and customer engagement. The company aims to use a combination of Meta’s open-source Llama models and Reliance’s extensive business reach to create industry-specific AI tools. The joint venture was first hinted at during Reliance’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in August, and now it has been formally established.

Two major products under development

REIL will primarily focus on two major products. The first will be an Enterprise AI Platform-as-a-Service, allowing businesses to design and use customized generative AI models as per their needs. The second will include pre-configured AI solutions developed specifically for key business areas such as sales, marketing, IT operations, customer service, and finance. These tools are expected to help enterprises automate routine functions, reduce costs, and improve decision-making capabilities.

Meta to provide AI expertise, Reliance to leverage reach

Meta will contribute its expertise in building Llama-based AI models, offering technical support and access to open-source research. Reliance, on the other hand, will utilize its vast digital infrastructure, along with its connections to thousands of Indian companies and small businesses. The AI solutions will be compatible with cloud, on-premise, and hybrid environments. The core aim is to make advanced AI tools accessible to both large enterprises and small firms in India, enabling them to operate more efficiently and competitively.

No regulatory approval required for new venture

As per Reliance’s filing, the formation of REIL does not fall under related-party transactions, and neither the promoters nor group entities of Reliance have any personal interest in the company. The creation of REIL did not require any government or regulatory approvals. Industry experts see this partnership as a strategic step that will accelerate the adoption of AI technology across Indian businesses. By combining Reliance’s vast market network with Meta’s AI expertise, REIL aims to democratize access to intelligent digital tools and drive the next wave of technological innovation in India’s enterprise sector.
