Russian oil report triggers selling pressure
Earlier this week, Reliance shares saw heavy intraday selling following a media report related to Russian crude oil supplies. The report claimed that three ships carrying Russian crude were headed towards Reliance’s Jamnagar refinery.
Following this report, the stock fell as much as 5 percent during intraday trade, reflecting investor nervousness around geopolitical and supply-related issues.
Reliance Industries, however, promptly rejected the report, calling it completely incorrect and baseless, and said the information had no factual backing.
How Q2 numbers looked previously
In the second quarter of the 2025-26 financial year, Reliance Industries posted a consolidated net profit of ₹18,165 crore. This was a 10 percent increase compared to the same quarter of the previous financial year, when the company had reported a profit of ₹16,563 crore.
Revenue from products and services stood at ₹2.59 lakh crore in the July–September quarter, reflecting a year-on-year growth of 10 percent. In the corresponding quarter of the previous year, revenue was ₹2.35 lakh crore.
What analysts expect from Q3 results
Market participants believe the January 16 results will play a key role in deciding the near-term direction of the stock. Analysts are closely tracking margins across major businesses, especially telecom and retail.
In the middle of the earnings discussion, investors are focusing on:
- Jio’s subscriber growth and profitability trends
- Margin performance in the retail business
- Refining margins at the Jamnagar complex
At the fag end, expectations are also building around management commentary on demand trends and cost pressures. About 10 percent of the focus remains on guidance-related cues, with investors looking for clarity on how Reliance plans to navigate volatile global conditions in the months ahead.
