Jio emerges as world’s largest data network
Reliance Jio, India’s largest telecom operator, announced on September 3 that its subscriber base has crossed 500 million. This achievement highlights Jio’s growing influence in the digital world and places its user base above the total population of three developed nations together. Jio has positioned itself as a key driver of digital inclusion and connectivity in India.
Five major achievements of Jio
The company has also listed five important contributions made during its journey so far. It introduced free voice calls across India, enabling millions of people to stay connected without cost barriers. It has driven a digital revolution by empowering 500 million Indians to watch videos and make payments digitally. Jio played a role in strengthening India’s digital public infrastructure including Aadhaar, UPI, Jan Dhan and direct bank transfers. The company also supported India’s startup ecosystem, which has now become the third largest in the world with over 100 unicorns. Additionally, Jio’s fast rollout of 5G has laid the foundation for an AI-driven future.
Anniversary offers for customers announced
On the occasion of its ninth anniversary, Jio announced several attractive offers. From September 5 to 7, all 5G smartphone users will get unlimited 5G data free of charge regardless of their existing plans. Meanwhile, 4G smartphone users can enjoy unlimited data with a 39-rupee add-on pack that carries a 3GB per day limit. Between September 5 and October 5, users opting for long-term plans of 2GB per day or more will receive additional benefits. A new Jio home connection will also be available for Rs 1,200 including GST for two months.
Akash Ambani thanks 500 million subscribers
Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, expressed gratitude to the company’s vast user base. He said that reaching 500 million subscribers is proof that Jio has become an essential part of everyday life in India. He emphasized that the power of connectivity is shaping a digital society and assured that Jio will continue to bring affordable and transformative technology to millions of Indians. Ambani thanked every user for their trust, saying it inspires the company to do more.
IPO plans and future valuation
Reliance Jio is also preparing for a major initial public offering (IPO) by June 2026, as announced by Mukesh Ambani at the recent Reliance AGM. Reports suggest that if Jio sells even 5 percent of its stake, it could raise between Rs 58,000 crore and Rs 67,500 crore, making it India’s largest-ever IPO. This could surpass Hyundai Motor India’s 2024 IPO worth Rs 27,870 crore by a wide margin. With the upcoming issue, Jio’s valuation is expected to touch $154 billion or Rs 13.5 lakh crore, higher than rival Bharti Airtel’s current market value of about Rs 11 lakh crore.
