Mumbai.Former U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to impose high tariffs on countries like India, China, and Brazil. Speaking at an event in Florida on Tuesday, Trump stated that it is time for America to return to the system that made it wealthy and powerful.
Trump’s Statement on Tariffs
“We are going to impose tariffs on those countries and external forces that intend to harm us. Look at what other countries do—China imposes heavy tariffs, so do India, Brazil, and others. We will not allow this anymore because we are putting America first.”
Trump accused these nations of working for their own interests at the expense of the U.S. economy. He claimed that America would establish a fair system that would boost its treasury and make the country rich again.
"We Will Tax Other Countries to Enrich Our People"
Trump argued that instead of taxing American citizens to enrich foreign nations, the U.S. should impose taxes on other countries. He suggested that foreign companies seeking to avoid high tariffs should establish manufacturing plants within the U.S.
Reiterating his "America First" slogan, Trump assured that while tariffs on foreign nations would increase, taxes on American workers and industries would be reduced. He emphasized that this approach would create jobs and boost factory growth across the country.
Eliminating Transgender Ideology from the Military
Trump also addressed the presence of transgender individuals in the U.S. military and criticized Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs. He announced: "To maintain the world's strongest military, we will completely eliminate transgender ideology from our armed forces." He added that he had already ordered the removal of DEI policies from both government and private sectors, including the military.
Warning Against Chinese AI Models
Trump warned American industries to be cautious about China's DeepSeek AI, emphasizing the need for a strong focus on AI technology. He suggested that while this challenge may disrupt Silicon Valley, it could also push the U.S. toward lower-cost innovation.
Additionally, Trump proposed restrictions on exporting advanced semiconductor technology to China.
Trump Signs Four Executive Orders
Trump signed four executive orders, which include:
1. Initiating the development of an advanced missile defense system similar to Israel’s Iron Dome.
2. Removing transgender ideology from the military.
3. Ending DEI programs in the military.
4. Reinstating soldiers who were dismissed for refusing COVID-19 vaccinations.
Controversy Over Transgender Military Policy
The inclusion of transgender personnel in the U.S. military has been a long-debated issue. In 2016, former President Barack Obama lifted the ban on transgender service members. However, Trump reversed this policy in 2017. Later, in 2021, President Joe Biden reinstated the right for transgender individuals to serve. According to reports, approximately 15,000 transgender individuals currently serve in the U.S. military. Trump’s former defense adviser, Pete Hegseth, claimed that allowing transgender personnel weakens national security.
Reinstating Soldiers Fired Over COVID-19 Vaccine Mandates
Between August 2021 and January 2023, around 8,000 U.S. military personnel were dismissed for refusing the mandatory COVID-19 vaccine. However, Biden reversed this policy in 2023, allowing dismissed personnel to rejoin.
Trump Orders a Halt on Federal Aid to States
Trump has also signed an order suspending all federal aid and loans to U.S. states. According to CNN, the order will take effect at 5 PM. However, it remains unclear which programs will be affected. The order clarifies that Medicare and Social Security benefits will remain unaffected.
Google Renames 'Gulf of Mexico'
Meanwhile, Google has changed the name of the "Gulf of Mexico" to the "Gulf of America" in the U.S. However, in Mexico, the name remains unchanged. In other countries, both names will be displayed. Google explained on X (formerly Twitter) that its policy has always been to update location names based on official government records.
