Mumbai. A startup born inside a Los Angeles home has stunned the business world, turning a modest investment into a fast-scaling enterprise. Matthew Gallagher, 41, built Medvi, a telehealth platform selling weight-loss GLP-1 drugs online, using artificial intelligence tools and minimal manpower. What makes the story remarkable is not just the speed of growth, but the fact that it was achieved without a large team or traditional office setup.

Rise of medvi with fast customer growth

Medvi began operations in September 2024 and saw immediate traction in a competitive healthcare market. Within the first month, the platform attracted 300 customers. The following month added another 1,000 users, indicating strong demand for its services.

In its first full business year in 2025, the company recorded sales of 401 million dollars, roughly Rs 3,700 crore. The profit margin stood at 16.2 percent, translating to nearly Rs 600 crore, significantly outperforming sector leader Hims, which operates at around 5.5 percent margins.

Altman prediction on AI driven startups comes true

The company’s rapid rise has drawn attention from OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who had predicted in 2024 that artificial intelligence would soon enable even a single individual to build a billion-dollar company. Reacting to Medvi’s success, Altman remarked that a bet he had made with his technology peers might now be won.

Gallagher credits his ability to make quick decisions as Medvi’s biggest strength, allowing the company to scale rapidly without bureaucratic delays.

AI tools running entire business operations

Around 20 percent of Medvi’s operational backbone is powered by artificial intelligence tools that handle coding, marketing, and customer engagement.

Key systems include:

  • ChatGPT, Claude and Grok for coding and automation
  • Midjourney and Runway for advertising visuals and videos
  • ElevenLabs for AI-based voice customer service
  • AI voice clone of Gallagher for handling appointments

Additionally, platforms like CareValidate and OpenLoop Health manage compliance, doctor networks, and medicine delivery systems.

Lean team strategy keeps costs and delays low

Unlike traditional startups, Medvi operates with a minimal workforce. Gallagher hired only one employee, his younger brother Elliot, who manages communication by filtering calls and messages.

This approach stems from Gallagher’s earlier experience running a 60-employee company called Watch Gang, which failed to achieve profitability. He realised that larger teams often lead to higher costs and slower decision-making processes.

Daily earnings and philanthropic contributions grow

The company now generates over 3 million dollars daily, roughly Rs 28 crore, marking an extraordinary growth trajectory in a short time.

Towards the end, about 10 percent of the company’s narrative is shaped by Gallagher’s personal journey and social contributions:

  • A portion of profits is directed towards helping homeless youth
  • Funds also support animal welfare initiatives
  • Gallagher himself experienced a difficult childhood, including homelessness

Medvi’s story stands as a powerful example of how artificial intelligence, combined with clarity of vision and execution, is reshaping entrepreneurship.
